    • Brenda Kay Klopatek-Sullivan

      Our beloved Brenda Kay Klopatek-Sullivan passed into God's hands unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, in Reno, Nev. Brenda was born in Stevens Point on Nov. 2, 1961, to Karl and Grace Klopatek. She moved with her family to Modesto, Calif., in 1978. In 2004, she moved with her parents to Penn Valley, Calif., and then in September of 2005 to Reno, Nev.

      Brenda attended Stevens Point Area Senior High and Grace M. Davis High School, Modesto Junior College and University of California, Stanislaus where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration. During her school years, she received numerous awards for excellence in music. She played violin with the orchestra, bells with the concert band, and sang and played piano with the jazz choir. She was selected to be a member of the California State Honors Orchestra. She played violin with the college symphony.

      Brenda received a Master of Business Administration from Golden Gate University. At the time of her death, she was a student at the University of Nevada, Reno, taking classes for receiving a CPA.

      Brenda was on the dean's list at Stevens Point Area Senior High, Grace M. Davis High and Modesto Junior College.

      Among her awards: Edward F. Griswold Achievement Award, Mancini Scholarship for Pursuit of Excellence in Music. She was appointed to the Student Collective Bargaining Unit for University of California, Stanislaus where she received an award for initiative, leadership and responsibility. She served as president of the Valley Medical Group Management Association from 1994 to 1995. In 1997, she received an award for her "Years of Outstanding Service and Dedication" from the California Medical Group Management Association.

      Following graduation, Brenda worked for the Valley Fertility Medical Group as their business manager and also for the Gould Medical Foundation. She was employed as senior staff consultant for George S. May International, construction accountant for St. Agnes Medical Center, and other consultant/controller businesses in Western states that were having financial/management problems. For the past 10 years Brenda worked as a controller/consultant for various construction companies in a five-state region, most recently completed a business analysis of accounting records of a major construction company.

      Brenda is survived by her parents, Karl and Grace Klopatek, 6170 Laurelwood Drive, Reno; brothers, Keith (Lynda) Klopatek, Rathdrum, Idaho, and Craig (Melissa) Klopatek, Pleasanton, Calif.; sisters, Melissa Klopatek, Sacramento, Calif., and Jennifer (Tracy) Driscoll, Modesto, Calif.; and nieces and nephews, Jamie and Kristin Klopatek, Rathdrum, Brandon Driscoll, Modesto, and Elijah and Emma Klopatek, Pleasanton.

      Brenda was known for her tremendous generosity of both her time and her gifts to family and friends. We had Brenda for too short a time and we will miss her greatly.

      A celebration of life memorial service was held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Walton's Sierra Chapel, 875 W. Second St., Reno, NV.
